William Fisher

William Fisher

William Fisher is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Fisher received his BA at Tel Aviv University and his M.S. and Ph.D. at Purdue. He has been a National Health Scientist (Health Canada) and is a Fellow of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology, the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex, and has been elected member of the International Academy of Sex Research. Dr. Fisher serves on the editorial boards of six major journals and has published over 180 papers on social psychological determinants of human sexual and reproductive health behavior. Dr. Fisher’s research has been supported by Health Canada and by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Fisher’s research involves conceptualizing and testing basic models of the psychological determinants of human sexual and reproductive health behavior. Recent work focuses on determinants of HIV preventive behavior, interventions to promote safer sex and adherence to antiretroviral therapy among HIV+ persons, contraceptive utilization, male sexual function, and the impact of pornography on behavior.
